Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey
Commonwealth Service in Westminster Abbey
Thirty children from Years 4, 5 and 6 together with 5 members of staff and Mother Abi had a wonderful day on Monday 11th March 2019. The school had been approached to provide a choir for the occasion of the 70th Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey.
The children sang a range of songs specially chosen for this occasion and reflecting the 2019 theme ‘A Connected Commonwealth’, accompanied by The Dionysus Ensemble.
A particular highlight for the children and staff was seeing the Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Duke of York as well as Prime Minister Theresa May.
All thirty children were a credit to Abbey School and it was a hugely enjoyable day for all involved.
We were delighted that one of our Year 6 Music Captains were presented to the Queen and other members of the royal family at the end of the service.
