GB Wheelchair Rugby Star Chris Ryan Visits Abbey School
The whole school enjoyed an assembly presented by GB wheelchair rugby vice-captain Chris Ryan today. Chris, who is the cousin of Shannon (Year 2) and Rowen (Year R), spoke to the children about his passion for wheelchair rugby which he took up following a car accident in 2008 where he broke his neck and became paralysed from the chest down.
The whole school listened with interest as Chris spoke about his love of the sport and his determination and perseverance. The children watched videos of wheelchair rugby in action and learnt about how the game is played. Will Austin in Year 5 was able to try Chris’ sports wheelchair and proved very proficient! The children were inspired by Chris and asked excellent questions showing maturity. We wish Chris as the best as he prepares for the Paralympics in Rio 2016.
