The Sunday Times (20th November 2016 edition) ran an article identifying the Top 250 State Primary Schools. We were delighted to see that in the 2016 ranking Abbey School was ranked as 10th in England, and the highest of the St Albans schools in the top 250.

As the photograph shows, the ranking in this league table is based on the end of Key Stage 2 SATs assessment results from 2013, 2014 and 2015 combined. It focused on the Year 6 children that achieved Level 5 (Level 4 being National Expectation) in reading, writing and maths.

This is not the first time that Abbey School has appeared in this league table and only last year Abbey School was once again featured in the top 10 in the UK.

I am extremely proud of all 210 pupils in our school and the fact that our Year 6 pupils are consistently performing at a level so far above the National Expectation in their end of Key Stage 2 assessments is something the whole school community is delighted with. Our children receive a well-rounded education, with the highest expectations and a love of learning that emanates throughout every aspect of Abbey School.

I would also like to pay tribute to the dedicated and inspiring teachers at the Abbey Primary School. Our teaching and support staff are excellent and these results and ranking are a testimony to their commitment and professionalism.
